TFD Series: Maximise your reality!

When I was invited to attend the last TFD Series in Lagos, I wasn’t sure what to expect. In my mind I envisioned a very small intimate session with the speaker who happened to be Mrs Ibukun Awosika, currently the First female chairman of First Bank Nigeria. It was a bit less intimate than I expected but everything else far surpassed what I had imagined the day would be like. TFD is amazing and Mrs Awosika is a walking inspiration, she speaks and she just pours out a wealth of information and top it off she’s on fire for God. I’m going to post about some of her golden nuggets about marriage this week.

I can’t explain what dropped in my spirit when I heard the words MAXIMISE YOUR REALITY! It was what Oprah would call an AHA! moment. You know, I struggle with the idea that my marriage isn’t where I want it to be. It’s not perfect like what I imagine it could be. It’s not always smiles, it’s not always dancing. it’s not always fun. In fact its more of a struggle than I imagine a marriage should be. Some days are better than others but on those low days where I feel like, surely there’s better than this I am now reminded by what this wonderful woman said…MAXIMISE YOUR REALITY!

IT’S BRILLIANT!

Whatever stage you find yourself in this life, you’ve got to make the best of it. Better days are coming but don’t despise the days where you struggle…they have been designed to prepare you for those better days. How else am I going to learn the art of negotiation, or conflict resolution. How will I learn to empathise with other women experiencing what I have gone through? Really knowwwwww what they are going through? God knew what he was doing when he sent his only son to walk this earth and feel all that we feel and even to die. HE knowwwwwws how we feel, he knowwwwwws how weak we are and so he forgives us always, he has compassion for us, he loves us! What a mighty God!

So now instead of wishing for a different reality and in the process missing the present and missing the lessons (in which case I continue to repeat negotiation, conflict resolution and keep your mouth shut classes), I will maximise my current reality. Knowing that he is working it all together for my good, I will worry less about the ups and the downs and instead praise God for the lessons. They are designed to strengthen me and equip me for his purpose.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

PS Our Bible Study on Marriage starts on the 1st of February and we will be using the most amazing resource. An audio teaching on marriage by TIM KELLER. It’s he all-time bestselling sermon series from Redeemer Presbyterian Church, preached in 1991, and the basis for the bestselling book “The Meaning of Marriage” in 2011.You can purchase them HERE for only $2.50 per session. I am in no way affiliated with the Redeemers Presbytarian Church but I was blown away by his teaching. You can also purchase the marriage book for a deeper study (it’s on the side bar). I can’t wait to start.

  1. Thanks Nimz. This was good and timely.
Sometimes in fed up with ‘learning lessons’ but i guess it’s best to remember i am a child of a master planner.

    1. Hi Damade, I would love for it to be interactive, we are still putting the final touches to it. I suggest you join the Facebook group as I think that might be the best place to have an interactive session. Feel free to make any suggestions. Looking forward to it!
